Vocation Ministry "Did You Know?"

In an upcoming HORIZON article, Father Patrick J. McDevitt, C.M., writes, "If we desire a healthy church tomorrow, we must be deeply committed to healthy formation today. Therefore, who we admit matters. Who we delay matters. Who we decline matters. How we make those decisions matters even more. At its deepest level, discernment is participation in the work of the Holy Spirit. The church has always understood vocation not primarily as recruitment, but as listening—as discernment. We do not manufacture vocations. We accompany persons in discerning whether God is truly calling them to a particular form of life and whether they possess the freedom, maturity, and capacity to live that vocation faithfully and fruitfully. And this work requires humility."
