Please introduce yourself and your role with the NRVC.

I am Sister Lisa Laguna, and I am a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. I am also a former NRVC Board member.

How did you come to vocation ministry?

In 2010, I was asked by my community to work in vocation ministry. You could say I came to vocation ministry through obedience. However, I also feel that my greatest lessons as a vocation director have been gained through obedience to the needs of discerners, rather than my own agenda. I say this because I came to vocation ministry with a long list of what I believed would be the best way to do many things. It didn't take very long to learn to listen to the discerners: to pay attention to where women were at, what they were interested in, and the kinds of activities they would be interested in participating in. I had to let go of my agenda pretty quickly and become obedient.

Please share one blessing and one challenge you encounter in your work.

The biggest blessing of this ministry is the grace and great privilege of accompaniment. I feel so blessed to walk with discerners on such a holy journey. I also feel so blessed to have been accompanied by so many great people at NRVC, like Sister Debbie Borneman, Sister Anna Marie Espinoza, Father Adam MacDonald, Sister Gayle Lwanga, Sister Anita Quigley, Sister Priscilla Moreno, and SO MANY MORE…

How has being a member of the NRVC helped you?

Being a member of NRVC has helped me to be a more responsible vocation director, a better companion and colleague to other vocation directors, and a faithful gatekeeper to my community.

What do you enjoy doing on your time off?

I enjoy spending time with the sisters. I enjoy logic puzzles, audiobooks, and golfing.
