Please introduce yourself and your role with the NRVC.
I’m Fr. Piero Masolo, an Italian Catholic priest and a PIME Missionary. PIME is the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions. Our charism is first evangelization in non-Christian countries. I lived as a missionary in Algeria and Myanmar. In April 2025, I was appointed Director of Vocations for the US and Canada, and I became a member of NRVC.
How did you come to vocation ministry?
I started working for vocations in Italy in 2008, when I was ordained. I did it for 5 years before being sent to Algeria, and I enjoyed accompanying young adults so much in their discernment. When our Regional Superior asked me to take the role of Director of Vocations, I accepted it with pleasure and gratefulness.
Please share one blessing and one challenge you encounter in your work.
A great blessing is to be able to accompany young adults in their discernment. A challenge is the size of this huge country, which doesn’t allow us to meet inquirers face-to-face so easily.
How has being a member of the NRVC helped you?
NRVC is really helpful because of its Orientation Program for new vocation directors that allows us to better understand what we’re asked to do and how to do it. My favorite is the Peers Group, where we aren’t just colleagues helping each other, but friends who share the same struggles and hopes in accompanying young adults.
What do you enjoy doing on your time off?
I love kayaking, swimming, and running, and Michigan is perfect for all these sports during the summer.
